Alabama Power reports that 56,300 homes and businesses lost power when storms swept across the central part of the state. Company spokesman Ike Pigott says the greatest number of outages was in the Jefferson County area. More than 30,000 customers had their service restored by 8 a.m. Monday. Pigott expects the number to keep dropping, but he said some parts of Jefferson County may not have service restored until Tuesday because of the heavy damage. (Copyright 2012 The Associated Press.
