The Sun Herald reports on Wednesday that the old Back Bay bridge and the former U.S. 90 bridge will be demolished and a new concrete fishing pier will be built. The city put the project up for bid with options for the concrete to be ground and sold or hauled to the reef south of Deer Island.
In a letter to Mayor A.J. Holloway and the City Council, Gollott on Tuesday pledged the Gulf Coast legislative delegation's support to find money to use the concrete for the Katrina Reef.
The new fishing bridge will be 4,700 feet long, which is about 200 feet shorter than the bridge destroyed by Katrina.
