TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Twenty days before the start of the
2009 hurricane season, Gov. Charlie Crist has named Ruben Almaguer
interim director of the agency that prepares Floridians for natural
disasters.
Almaguer, 44, was named Tuesday, but he had already been
effectively leading the state's Division of Emergency Management.
Almaguer had previously been the agency's deputy director and led
the agency following the departure of its previous head Craig
Fugate.
Fugate held the position from 2001 to March 2009. He is now
awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate to take over the top
position at the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Almaguer will make $110,000 a year.
