Pascagoula Takes A Beating

The National Weather Service confirms that Pascagoula was hit by an EF0 tornado. That means the wind got up to 75 mph Thursday morning.

The scoreboard at Pascagoula High School is knocked out of the park after the tornado moves in. That moves in. PHS student Andrew Purdy can't believe his eyes. "We walked out here and come out here and it's gone."

The Pascagoula Panthers are in the middle of a great season and had plans to host Harrison Central Friday (3/27) night. Andrew is wondering how the team will get around this new hurdle. "I mean a ground ball could go through the field and how do you count that? Pencil and paper? Go back to stone tablets I guess."

A tornado also takes aim at the fence. It was just put up late last year after years of recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

Getting the fence back up won't take long but the scoreboard is a different story. Athletics Director Greg Freeman says that will take weeks. "It's a 4-to-6 week delivery time on that. So it's something that's not gonna be probable for this season."

School officials estimate the field damage at $100,000.
