JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi residents have received no
federal aid to repair hundreds of waterlogged homes from Hurricane
Gustav, leaving homeowners to wonder if they have been left high
and dry.
The state is getting federal disaster assistance to repair or
rebuild public buildings, roadways and for debris removal in
eligible counties, including those on the Gulf Coast.
However, Governor Haley Barbour's request for individual
assistance to rebuild or repair homes received no response from the
Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Individual assistance would give eligible homeowners up to
$28,000.
In a letter to FEMA head David Paulison, U-S Senator Roger
Wicker says he's extremely disappointed in the agency's lack of
response.
