Pink flamingos aren't a common sight on the Gulf Coast, but a man assessing damage from Hurricane Gustav caught a pair of the birds wading near Long Beach, Mississippi. The flamingos get their unique pink coloring from the beta carotene in their diet, much of which comes from shrimp and bacteria.
