HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) - Tropical Storm Bertha is kicking up
deadly surf as far away as New Jersey as it swarms past Bermuda.
The storm appeared to play a role in the deaths of at least two
swimmers along the New Jersey coast, where the U.S. National
Weather Service said Bertha created tricky waves and currents.
People in Bermuda are taping up windows and securing boats.
Forecasters predict the storm will sideswipe the island tomorrow,
dumping up to 4 inches of rain. Authorities have already closed
some beaches on the British Atlantic territory.
JetBlue has canceled Monday flights from Bermuda to Boston and
New York. American Airlines passengers scheduled to travel to Miami
and New York that day were flown out today.
The storm's maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 65
miles an hour. Bertha is centered about 170 miles southeast of
Bermuda.
