TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida is getting a national emergency
grant of up to $20 million for cleanup and humanitarian aid related
to Tropical Storm Fay.
The U.S. Labor Department approved Gov. Charlie Crist's grant
request Monday with an initial release of $8 million.
It will provide temporary jobs for about 6,500 Floridians to
clear debris on public property and address other cleanup issues.
The grant also will support disaster recovery centers that
provide shelter, food, water and other supplies. Two centers have
been opened in Brevard County and others will be added as needed
throughout the state.
