Four residences were damaged by severe weather this afternoon in the Navarre area. Calls to Santa Rosa Emergency Communications began at 2:28 p.m. with Holley-Navarre Fire District responding and establishing a mobile command area on Coral Street. There were no injuries, deaths or displaced residents. Downed trees, fences, power lines and debris were also reported. The Red Cross was on scene to lend assistance.
The damage indicates the storm traveled in a northeast direction, and initial assessments lead county staff to speculate the damage was caused by straight-line winds, not a tornado touchdown. However, the Mobile Office of the National Weather Service will be in Navarre tomorrow to survey the damage, gather witness information, and determine the strength and official cause of the event.
Preliminary damage assessments show the following structures were affected:
· An unoccupied house on Coral Street, approximately 75% of the home’s roof was removed
· A mobile home on Sevilla Street sustained roof damage from a downed tree limb
· A mobile home on Avenida del Sol sustained roof damage
· A mobile home on Segura Street sustained roof damage
