Daphne High School running back T.J. Yeldon is Alabama's Mr. Football.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder ran for 2,196 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior.

He initially verbally committed to play for Auburn but changed his mind in December.

Yeldon has already enrolled at the University of Alabama and will go through spring practice.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association chose him as the state's top prep player.

Yeldon was honored Wednesday at a luncheon presented by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.

He received 187 points from the ASWA prep committee to beat out Hueytown quarterback Jameis Winston (173) and Anniston running back Troymaine Pope (116).

Yeldon is the first running back to win the award since Carnell Williams in 2000.
