Alabama's conservation commissioner, Barnett Lawley, says it's time to raise the fees for hunting, fishing and boating licenses. Lawley says they were last raised in 1989, and the cost of operating Alabama's outdoors programs have gone up a lot since then. Lawley says he will ask the Legislature to raise the cost of a resident hunting license from 16 dollars to 24 dollar, a resident fishing license from nine dollars and 50 cents to 12 dollars. Lawley says he isn't sure yet what he will recommend for saltwater fishing licenses, out-of-state licenses and boating licenses. Lawley plans to present the fee increases in the Legislature's regular session, which begins March sixth.
