With a game-high 24 points and five assists, Daon Merritt led South Alabama to a 73-to-71 overtime victory over Western Kentucky tonight. The Jaguars (18-and-7, 12-and-2 Sun Belt Conference) came into the game on a 10-game winning streak and led the Hilltoppers (17-and-9, 9-and-5 S-B-C) by 35-to-25 at the half. But Western Kentucky came back strong after the intermission to tie the score at 63-to-63 and push the game into overtime. Other double digit scorers for the Jaguars were Demetric Bennett with 14 points and Brandon Davis with ten. Courtney Lee led the Hilltoppers with 21 points and seven rebounds.
