The re-opening of Gulf waters is breathing new life into the commercial and recreational fishing industry in our area.
Zeke's Landing Marina in Orange Beach was bustling with activity Friday evening, just like the good old days.
Thad Stewart works at the marina.
He said, "It looks like them opening these waters has gotten a lot more, at least recreational people, out there fishing, and I know our charter office has been real busy today booking trips."
Captain Adam Simmons and his deckhands aboard the charter boat "Bama Assault" went out fishing for themselves Friday, and came back with a big catch, including tuna.
Simmons said, "We've been waiting all summer to get in to catch some fish, and so, just thankfully, just now they're catching some. They're opening the waters up for us."
Captain Jeff Colley and his deckhands on the charter boat "Unreachable," are very reachable,
They're getting ready for the annual Labor Day Fishing Tournament sponsored by the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club.
Then, they're hoping for business, too.
When asked if he's ready to take reservations for charter boat trips, the captain of the "Unreachable," Jeff Colley, said, "Yes, sir. Anytime they get ready, we're ready to go fishing. We're as ready as anybody."
The fishing tournament wraps up Monday morning, with a breakfast to honor the champions.
