A 100 ton containment dome made of concrete and steel is on its way to the blown-out undersea oil well gushing poison into Gulf waters.
It's expected to take 12 hours to get the dome on site, and two days to place what is essentially a large building on the sea floor. B-P spokesperson Doug Suttles says, "Over the weekend then, we'll be attaching that dome to the drill ship Enterprise with a riser and pipe work assembly which will allow the oil to flow up to the surface and be processed."
Suttles calls it a complex task.
If all goes as planned, they may stop the flow of oil into the Gulf as soon as Monday. But, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry used two words repeatedly today 'manage expectations'. "I know we are all hoping that this containment system will work. But, I want to remind everybody that this containment system is a first of its kind deployed in 5 thousand feet of water. So..please I have to manage your expectations..and just understand that our job is not done until this well is sealed." says Landry.
