Many of you have contacted us wanting to know how you can help if oil makes landfall on our stretch of the Gulf Coast. Mobile Baykeeper, The Alabama Coastal Foundation, Mobile Bay National Estuary Program and other groups are coordinating a massive volunteer effort. As many as 10-thousand people from around the World have already said they want to help clean up our coast. But, if you still want to volunteer, they'll find a job for you. You could be doing anything from manning an office to cleaning wildlife and beaches. But, before you can come in contact with oil, you'll have to go through special training, "oil is a hazardous waste and its got to be treated with extreme caution. We need to make sure all of our volunteers are incredibly safe and know what to do and how to react and how to be around oil. We will be training people on everything possible, "said Casi Calloway with Mobile Baykeeper, "we expect to have those trainings available within the next 48 hours." To sign up to volunteer all you have to do is register with one of these agencies: Mobile Baykeeper, Alabama Coastal Foundation, or Mobile Bay National Estuary Program . You can register through their websites. You don't have to register for all three because those groups are working together. Once your name is on the list, we are told you will be contacted.
