Perdido Pass Booming System Breaking Down

Perdido Pass Booming System Breaking Down

The brand new booming system at Perdido Pass that the City of Orange Beach paid $4.6 million to build is not holding up to the six foot swells generated by Hurricane Alex.

As the higher storm swell generated by Hurricane Alex hits the Gulf Coast, two lines of defense against the oil are breaking down.

The biggest one is the brand new booming system at Perdido Pass that the City of Orange Beach paid $4.6 million to build.

The six foot swells have created two gaping holes in the 4,000 feet of dredge pipe.

Crews know how to fix it. They're retrofitting the boom with new bolts, lock washers, and weights. They will eventually run a safety cable through the whole thing so the sections of the pipe don't go anywhere in case they broke again.
