When The Gulf Coast's Native Son agreed to hold a benefit concert to shore up support for a struggling economy in this Coastal Crisis....Jimmy Buffett fans gobbled up 35 thousand free tickets within minutes. That was before a lesser known name entered The Gulf, Tropical Storm Alex.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft says,
"It has been determined that it is absolutely unsafe to have that stage in that location on the first. So that event has been postponed.
"It's tides and currents and things that we have no control over", says Buffett's sister, Lucy Buffett.
Tropical Storm Alex isn't expected to hit Gulf Shores directly, but, a five to seven foot storm swell could undermine the main concert stage. Lucy Buffett says,
"He did not want to cancel. He did not want to cancel. Cancel is not the word because he said, 'I'm coming no matter what'".
Instead of performing July 1st, Jimmy Buffett will rock The Alabama Gulf Coast July 11th. Herb Malone of The Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau says, "Everyone's gonna be asking the question..'o.k. I'm coming,I had reservations..what do I do now?' You call the company you had reservations with and you talk to them and I feel very comfortable that our businesses will be cooperative and work with folks in a very cooperative manner".
Tickets will not be redistributed. If you're one of the lucky fans who got one last week, it's good for the show on July 11th.
No word on what time the concert will start.
