The Alabama Department of Transportation is continuing its Mobile Bay ferry service, between Dauphin Island and Ft. Morgan, after the presence of oil in that area of Mobile Bay was cleared by skimmer boats.

There is no indication at this time how long the ferry service will continue as officials monitor tide and oil conditions. The ferry will continue to operate as conditions allow, but could experience schedule delays and intermittent suspension of service.

ALDOT regularly runs two ferries in Mobile Bay, the Marissa Mae Nicole and the Fort Morgan, which is currently undergoing repairs.

If warranted, a protective boom can be placed around the Marissa Mae Nicole when it docks at Dauphin Island. If necessary, the ferryboat will be moved to a safe location farther up into the bay.

ALDOT will provide updates regarding ferry service as needed. Visit www.dot.state.al.us for additional closure information.
