News 5 flew along the Gulf Coast today and could not find much surface oil or sheen along the Mississippi Coast. In fact, only minimal amounts of oil could be seen from Mobile Bay west to Biloxi. We spotted miles of containment boom protecting Jackson County, Mississippi's coastline near Pascagoula, but no oil. Further west, near Biloxi, the Mississippi Sound was, for the most part, oil free.
Doubling back east, the Gulf waters south of Dauphin Island were emerald green...no oil. But close to Fort Morgan, we did see two small oil slicks near the old civil war fort. We also saw tar balls washing up in the area. Several oil clean-up crews were on the scene trying to clean up the pollution.
