The economy doesn’t seem to be affecting the number of people watching parades and many parading societies appear to be going strong in this recession. That’s what one official with the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association thinks. MAMGA Public Relations Director Walt Dickerson says his organization has seen very little membership drop-off in this recession. He says new membership levels are on track with regular years too. Dickerson says Mardi Gras seems to be a tradition many people save for all year.

“I think it's very family oriented, especially in Mobile and I also believe that this is just something that people look forward to,” says Walt Dickerson. Thousands came out for parades this weekend despite the cold. Dickerson says Mardi Gras is something families plan for. Friday I took at look at how some people aren’t changing their spending for the season.
