The first downtown parade of the Mardi Gras season gets ready to take to the streets of Mobile Friday night.
But there's a threat of rain for the Conde' Cavaliers Parade.
Organization members don't reveal their faces and names, but they welcomed News Five to their den Thursday as they loaded up their floats for Friday night's parade.
They certainly don't want to think about rain stopping their parade from rolling, but they have to make a decision several hours before the floats go on the streets.
The president of Conde' Cavaliers said, "Our drop dead time from police is 3:00 on Friday."
The Conde's load up their floats inside their den, but they have paraded before in the rain outside.
The president said, "We had one poor president, for both years of his reign, we got rain. I hope that doesn't take place this year."
Mobile Police can also shut down the parade depending on the weather.
The president said, "If it comes down to hazardous weather conditions, the police department will not allow us to ride."
To make the float loading easier on a sunny day, members did some outside grilling.
One member said, "We've got a little deer, some sausage, Conecuh sausage, we're cooking a little bit of everything. We're going to put some chicken wings on here in just a little bit."
Most members aren't too worried about rain.
Another member said, "My particular float, I ride with my father and my two brothers. Its always a good ride for me every single year, regardless of what the weather's like. It's going to be good for us."
And if for some reason the Conde's can't parade Friday, they can talk to the city about trying to find another date during the Mardi Gras season.
The president said, "We're working on that now. We will ride, we will ride. We're not sure right now when its going to be, but we will."
In fact, the Conde's said they have only cancelled once in their 33 year history.
