The Le Krewe de Bienville is making some changes this year. Two women are parade marshals for the first time in the group’s history. Virgie Thomas and Joan Anderson are the first female marshals for this all-male organization. The women say they’re honored to mark this milestone for the parading society.
“We're probably just a little more forward thinking, the women, even though it’s a man's organization women are very involved and they understand we're a lot of help to them,” says Joan Anderson. The Krewe’s parade was big and featured floats depicting Gone with the Wind, Death and Taxes and Cowboys and Indians.
