When Kenneth Feinberg was appointed head of BP claims, he announced muncipalities and local governments affected by the oil spill would not be covered under the 20 billion dollar escrow account. That announcement has many local mayors concerned...even considering possible legal action against the oil company.
Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon has filed a 2.5 million dollar claim with BP. Kennon says he's expects BP to honor it. If not, Kennon says the city would consider suing the oil giant.
Foley Mayor John Koniar tells News 5 he would also consider legal action if BP doesn't honor his city's claim.
BP officials tell News 5 they will handle all indirect claims, not Feinberg. Indirect claims include claims filed by local governments.
