WKRG NEWS 5 took its 6pm newscast on the road. In an effort to Salute Our Troops, WKRG is touring military bases on the Gulf Coast.
The first stop, Naval Air Station Whiting Field, which is preparing for its 66th anniversary by throwing a party for the community that has supported them for decades.
NAS Whiting field is hosting a day long open house Saturday, October 24th from 10 to 4.
A free concert by Lonestar will top off the days events.
Most of the military helicopter pilots are trained at NAS Whiting Field. It is also the busiest Naval Air Station in the world.
