One of the major training areas at Keesler Air Force Base is in forecasting. The Weather Training Facility trains both weather officers and enlisted weather forecasters. They get a basic understanding of weather and how it can affect various missions. Eventually, graduates move into advisory positions throughout the military.
“We have to have trained weather officers so they have that skill, scientific background so they can forecast on whether or not people and resources are protected at all different [Department of Defense] installations,” says Captain Brian Miller. I also saw a small graduation ceremony for some weather officers Tuesday. Officials say they graduate more than 400 enlisted weather forecasters a year and 50 weather officers. You can see more of Keesler Air Force Base tonight at 6pm. Tune in for our final “Salute to the Troops” this season.
