Prichard Mayor: City Not Ready for Curfew

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Some city leaders in Prichard aren't happy about the new teen curfew. The city council approved it last night.

Both the police chief and the mayor are saying it came too soon. They say the police department isn't staffed enough to enforce the curfew and they don't have any place to put juveniles caught after the curfew.

“How can you set an ordinance or a law without talking to the people that will be implementing it,” said Mayor Ron Davis.

“If we are going to have a curfew, it ought to be on that is workable and one that has clarity and one that everybody understands and knows their role and we have not had that,” said Police Chief Jimmie Gardner.

The city council has given the police department 45 days to get everything in order before the curfew is enforced.
