Remington College-Mobile Campus will hold a bone marrow donor drive on Wednesday, January 25 in honor of one of its instructors battling a rare bone marrow disease.
The public is encouraged to participate by signing up to be part of the National Marrow Donor Program at the event, which entails a simple, painless mouth swab. The drive will take place on campus between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The drive is to honor Velvet DiVisconte-Wenck, known as "Mrs. D," an Allied Health instructor. She is battling myeloproliferative disease, which results in excessive production of bone marrow cells. Her treatment could include the need for a bone marrow transplant.
The effort is part of the Remington College 3 Lives campaign, a program aimed at recruiting both blood and bone marrow donors in the communities where Remington has campuses.
Remington College-Mobile Campus is located at 828 Downtowner Loop West in Mobile.
