After just four months on the job, Bayou La Batre's top law enforcement official is stepping down.
Public Safety Director, Mitchell Stuckey tendered his resignation to the city council this week.
It comes at a tough time for the city, whose mayor has been indicted on federal embezzlement and fraud charges.
But Stuckey said that didn't weigh on his decision, he just wanted to get closer to family.
“In fact, if anything that made it harder for me to leave. Right now they need a stable environment and I think I’ve offered that. The mission for a fireman and a policeman are the same, no matter what else is going on. We’re there to protect and serve,” said Stuckey.
Stuckey's last day will be Friday. The city council will meet on Monday to begin looking for a replacement.
