Jewelry stores in south Baldwin County are on alert after a thief rips off a store at Tanger Outlet Mall. Store surveillance video shows a black man, about 6' 2", 300 pounds making the rounds at jewelry counters in Kay Jewelers. Police say he spent almost an hour using what they call a "distraction technique" to get the clerk to pull as much as 20 thousand dollars worth of jewelry out of the case. At one point he puts a rope chain around his neck and later slips it into his pocket and walks out of the store. He tried the same thing at a Zales store just a few doors down but was unsucessful. Foley Police investigator Scott Baxley says he is always accompanied by a woman. "They were in there about 45 minutes, same technique. They went from display case to display case. They looked at approximately 20 thousand dollars worth of jewelry but he was unable to complete the theft." Police need your help identifying this man and they would like to talk to the woman also. If you have any information you are asked to call the Foley Police Department at 943-4431.
