Miss. Court Orders New Trial in Hot-Oil Death Case

Edna Mae Sanders of MS

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Mississippi Supreme Court has ordered a new trial for a Hancock County woman convicted of killing her husband with hot cooking oil.

The court on Thursday denied a motion by prosecutors to reinstate Edna Mae Sanders' conviction and sentence.

Sanders' conviction and life sentence was overturned in March by the state Court of Appeals. The Mississippi Attorney General's office petitioned the Supreme Court to reverse the Appeals Court.

Edna Mae Sanders was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in the 2008 death of Sherman Sanders. Sherman Sanders died about a week after he was burned at the couple's Diamondhead home in 2006.
