Ken Smith has been giving historic and nature tours of the eastern shore via Segways for about 7 weeks. More than a hundred people have taken the tours.
Smith says his company, All American Segway of Rochester, Mn. is hoping there is a market for tours and rentals of the transportation devices. They've given themselves a deadline of April 1st to find out.
The gyro stabilized-battery powered devices have been around for about a decade. They have yet to corner to market on personal transportation that it's inventor hoped it would. However, they are gaining some popularity, especially in larger cities where tours using the devices are popular.
Many folks may balk at the $6500 price tag however for buying one.
Tours are given twice daily and All American Segway offers discounts via Groupon.
