A widespread cable outage in South Baldwin County affected thousands of Mediacom customers Monday night- right in the middle of the BCS National Championship game.

Seven-thousand Mediacom subscribers from Loxley to Gulf Shores missed more than an hour of the big game.

Cable service went out at the end of the 1st quarter and wasn't repaired until the end of the 3rd.

Bama fans were furious.

A Mediacom spokesperson tells News 5 a piece of electronic equipment failed, causing the outage.

Mediacom apologized to customers affected by the malfunction...but the company says they have no intention of offering refunds or credits.

Many Mediacom customers we talked to say they're cancelling their cable subscriptions.
