Fairhope family collecting blankets for homeless

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Another cold night means another struggle for people living on the streets trying to stay warm. But one family in Fairhope is trying to help.

Selena Powell and her 13-year-old son, Blayze, are collecting blankets, toiletries and winter gear. They plan to hand out the items to the homeless in downtown Mobile every weekend this winter. So far they've gotten numerous donations from people in the community.

"I collect throughout the year, but I have had friends and family that have been dropping off within the past month, typically before I leave I sit out my baskets that are labeled so they know where to put their items," said Selena Powell.

They're still collecting items to give out. If you are interested in helping, you can email Selena at spf2@bellsouth.net.
