In Thomasville, it's not hard to find people who know Drew Knight.
“We're not losing hope yet until we hear something we've learned that their parents are okay just anxious and nervous, they just want to know something,” says high school friend Jesse Luker. It is hard to find people who wanted to talk about him on camera. From city hall to the schools to even the locally owned restaurant, most people declined to talk on camera saying the family asked them not to talk to the media.
“It was all kind of a shock, woke up this morning the prayer chain started pretty quickly on Facebook and I heard about it as soon as I got to work,” says Luker. People haven't been shy about sharing their thoughts on a Facebook prayer page dedicated to Drew and his crewmen. People that know him say he's a great guy who's passionate about the Coast Guard.
“Drew always loved that kind of stuff he was always a military type guy he told me about the coast guard he loved it, he loved what he did,” says Luker. In a small place like Thomasville an event like this makes people pull together
“I would say there's a sense of depression over the town whenever you have a tragedy like this,” says Berneta Stallworth, the town clerk who knows Drew’s father.
