The creation of the Gulf Coast Restoration Trust Fund could help secure billions of dollars in oil spill fine money for the five states impacted by the disaster.
The amendment is part of the "Restore Act"- which, is passed by Congress- would funnel 80-percent of the fine money to our area.
Currently, every bit of it is scheduled to be given to the U-S Treasury, which could then divide and split up the money to states unaffected by the disaster.
Local leaders are watching the battle for the billions unfold in Washington.
Under the Clean Water Act, B.P. will owe between five and 20 billion dollars- money local communities still recovering from the oil spill believe they should get.
