Renewing your driver's license? Your new license will soon look a little different.

Yellow stars will be stamped at the top of all new licenses- part of a federal law passed in the wake of the September 11th attacks.

The STAR- or Secure, Trusted and Reliable Identification program- is Alabama's version of the Real ID Act passed by Congress in 2005.

All Alabamians will be required to have the STAR ID by 2017 to board a domestic flight or enter federal facilities.

Other states will implement their own version to comply with federal guidelines.

The STAR ID costs the same as a driver's license renewal and must be renewed every four years.

For more information, log onto the Alabama Department of Public Safety's website at www.dps.alabama.gov
