Mobile Public Schools acting Superintendent Martha Peek says having more flexibility on the local level would help Alabama school districts break out of a 'one size fits all' model.
She says with the blessing of the State School Board, Mobile has already created different curriculum paths for certain students, but the flexibility bill would allow local administrators to do even more at a faster pace.
Peek says curriculums aimed at industries such as maritime, aviation and technology are examples of what could be done.
The flexibility would also allow public schools to compete better with what is expected to be the approval of Charter Schools for the state during the current legislative session.
