Twelve days after being rescued, Purple Hearted Puppies survivors are doing pretty good according to Fairhope veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Powe "Most of the dogs of all shapes and sizes are still on the same plane just getting back to having food every day and water every day."
Solomon, is one of the extreme cases. When rescuers found him they didn't know if he was dead or alive. "This is how wide his abdomen is," Dr. Powe says while circling his waist. "He has put on several pounds since we rescued him and now he is able to walk."
As for the rest of the animals they are getting closer to finding permanent homes. "We're hoping in about three to four weeks from now we should be able to start scheduling the first adoptions."
Bella is one of the survivors of Purple Hearted Puppies. She and a lot of the dogs are doing a lot better now that they are at area vet clinics and different rescues but now we're hearing reports that people are actually trying to take advantage of this tragedy.
"Unfortunately there are a lot of people saying they have Summerdale and Robertsdale dogs. They are appearing on Craigslist and people are trying to sell them and that is just not the case," says Deneen Balistere with the Baldwin Humane Society.
All 66 dogs and 56 cats are still in Baldwin and Mobile counties. "This is somebody who is unfortunately trying to get rid of an animal they no longer want," says Balistere.
The search now is for owners who may have boarded an animal at the Summerdale facility. "These dogs won't go back to just anyone. We need to know that this is your dog before we give it back."
