Bill Would Give Tax Break for Hiring Vets

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A new bill being brought before the legislature is aimed at putting veterans back to work while helping businesses.

State representative DuWayne Bridges introduced the Heroes for Hire Tax Credit Act Wednesday.

The bill would provide a $2,000 tax credit for businesses that hire veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

“With the wars winding down in Iraq and Afghanistan, thousands of Alabama veterans will soon be returning home to a stagnant economy and it's going to be difficult for them to find a job,” said Rep. Bridges.

The Heroes for Hire Tax Credit Act will be brought to the House floor Thursday. If it passes there it will go to a Senate vote before getting the governor's signature.
