Have you been watching? "We can't understand it." Gas prices are going up averaging 19 cents more a gallon just in the last month. Industry analysts say it is just the beginning. "We did find this station just now $3.39 where down the road they've already raised it to $3.45." For Eugene Van Winkle and his wife Linda, higher prices at the pump doesn't jive with the cost of oil which is still below a hundred dollars a barrel. "It went all the way down to 96 dollars but the gas never went down. What's that about?" Four dollar a gallon gas prices are not out of the question by May according to the Oil Price Information Service but some motorists are skeptical. "They like to start that rumor and if everybody thinks that way then they'll make sure it is four dollars," says Steve Smith from Wisconsin. "I think they listen to people and if people expect it they say 'Oh lets raise the price'." "If it's $3.60 we'll probably stay tight for a while," says Norma Gilbertson from Minnesota. "But they usually go down," she says. We depend on our cars to get us where we're going. If gas prices continue to go up, going will get a lot tougher. "The consumer is wigged out with what's going with oil and the price of gas," says Van Winkle. Gas prices are averaging about $3.39 a gallon in the Foley area. Closer to the beach it's a little closer to the national average of $3.48 a gallon.
