City Council Offers Prayer For Murdered Police Officer

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Mobile City Council opened Tuesday’s meeting with a prayer for Officer Steven Green and the entire Mobile Police Department.  The council and members of the audience then joined hands for a moment of silence for Green, who was killed in the line of duty on Friday.

“We’ve had a tragedy in our city,” said Mobile Mayor Sam Jones in his opening remarks to the council.

Tuesday’s council meeting was the first since a robbery suspect being escorted in the sally port of Mobile Metro Jail stabbed Officer Green.

The Mobile Police Department is conducting two investigations--- the criminal investigation involving Officer Green’s murder and an internal investigation into how it happened.

Police Chief Michael Williams attended Tuesday’s council meeting but declined to comment to News Five.   Chief Williams said he would not discuss the investigation until after Officer Green is laid to rest.

Officer Green’s funeral is scheduled for 11am Wednesday at Sunlight District Auditorium on Seminary Street in Prichard.
