Surveillance cameras at Mobile Metro Jail captured the murder of Mobile Police Officer Steven Green.
Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran and other top law enforcement officers reviewed the videos on Monday, which showed Green being attacked in the sally port on Friday afternoon.
According to Cochran, Wallace managed to free himself from his handcuffs as he was being transported in a patrol car from the Mobile Police Department to the jail. He then pretended to still be in handcuffs as Officer Green escorted him from the car to the first secure door inside the sally port.
"His arms were still back behind his back as if he was handcuffed,” said Cochran. Officer Green realized the prisoner was no longer handcuffed as they approached the door to the booking room.
In a matter of seconds, Wallace stabbed Officer Green, who was the only officer with him at the time.
It’s widely believed the weapon that Wallace used was somehow connected to a diamond shaped necklace he was wearing, but the sheriff downplayed the significance of the jewelry.
