6:17 p.m.
Around 3:50 p.m., an officer with the Mobile Police Department was stabbed by Lawrence Wallace, Jr. as he was being brought into Mobile Metro Jail. After the stabbing, Lawrence took off in the officer's police cruiser. Both the Mobile County Sheriff's Office and police department chased the suspect. According to Mobile Police, following a standoff, Wallace was killed by authorities.
5:22 p.m.
Mayor's office confirms one of the wounded MPD officers has died. Mayor Sam Jones is on his way to the officer's house.
4:30 p.m.
Mobile police are trying to take a suspect who shot two officers into custody.
Police have the suspect holed up under a house on Cedar Crescent Drive off Dauphin Island Parkway.
This all started around 11:15 a.m. when police say Lawrence Wallace, Jr tried to rob the Dollar General on North Schillinger in West Mobile. Wallace brought lighter fluid, charcoal and a lighter to the counter. he then demanded money from the register. Before the cashier could get it open, police say Wallace sprayed lighter fluid on the counter, floor and a display. He then set them on fire.
An off duty police officer happened to be shopping at the Dollar General and tackled Wallace.
Around 3:45 p.m., police transported Wallace from police headquarters to Metro Jail. But before they got him inside, we understand Wallace shot a police officer and took off.
