A plan by the White House to end combat in Afghanistan is drawing opposition from many Republicans.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says troops will be transitioning to a training and advisory role in 2013.
Presidential candidate Mitt Romeny called the announcement misguided.
"He announced that so the Taliban hears it, the Pakistanis hear it, the Afghan leaders hear it," Romney said of Panetta during a rally in Las Vegas. "Why in the world do you go to the people that you are fighting with and tell them the day you are pulling out your troops? It makes absolutely no sense."
But one local soldier who has been to Afghanistan says it's time some of our troops come home.
“It means we are getting the job done and superiors are changing the mission because the soldiers are accomplishing what they have done and it's time to move forward,” said Spc. Jason Trucks.
The US currently has 90,000 troops in Afghanistan. 22,000 are due home this fall. President Obama said he would like to have all of them out by the end of 2014.
