America's small towns- they've been the backbone of our nation for centuries. But in recent years, rural communities are dying. The weak economy has hit small town America hard. Jobs are scarce...and future development and growth are non-existent.
The federal government, realizing rural Amercia needs help, has dispatched Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development Cheryl Cook to small towns across the Southeast.
Cook, who was in South Baldwin County Friday, says the U.S.D.A. can help rural communities create jobs through business start-ups, construction projects..even through federal loans and grants.
The U.S.D.A's Rural Development Division can also secure home loans for qualified buyers. The agency has more than 500 Rural Development Division offices nation-wide.
