A teacher at Alma Bryant High School is being investigated by Bayou La Batre police after shooting a former student.
The shooting happened Wednesday night at Dr. Martin Welch's home on Fairway Drive in Irvington.
Welch told people close to him that Kevin Fox came to his house looking for prescription drugs. When Welch refused refused to give him any, Welch says Fox pulled out a knife and that he shot Fox in self defense.
Fox is in critical condition at USA Medical Center.
In an email to News 5, Fox's father says his son was shot four times. He says his son, who lives with Welch, has a broken neck, an injury he suffered before the shooting. He says Fox can barely walk and is in no shape to attack someone.
Welch is on administrative leave. He has not been charged or arrested for the shooting.
