Seven weeks ago, hundreds of firefighters were battling one of South Baldwin County's largest wildfires in recent history.
11-hundred acres burned inside Gulf State Park...a fire that threatened homes and forced evacuations. The fire left parts of the park scorched and burned beyond recognition.

Park officials tell News 5 fire is healthy for forests...under controlled situations. It kills off dead growth, allowing the forest to thrive and generate new growth.
The wildfire destroyed a bridge and damaged several back-country trails. Park crews have replaced the bridge and repaired the trails.
