Thomasville Still Without Medical Care

Southwest Alabama Medical Center

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Three weeks ago Southwest Alabama Medical Center closed in Thomasville, leaving the city without proper medical attention.

In the event of an emergency the nearest hospital is located in Grove Hill, 15 miles south of Thomasville.

Thomasville's mayor told News 5's Blake Brown Thursday that he is working hard to bring a new facility to the area. Mayor Sheldon Day says this is the biggest issue he's faced during his 15 years in office.

Locals tell News 5 that there have been several scares within the last few weeks and a medical facility nearby would have helped.

Southwest Alabama Medical Center operated in Thomasville since the 1960's.
