Christopher Johnson passed away at 6:25 Thursday evening from lethal injection.
"He was truly sorry for what had happened but what something like that happens you can't take that back," says Johnson's half-brother Tom Lagos. Lagos was Johnson's the only relative watching the execution with corrections staff and members of the media.
"He's waited awhile to be put at peace, he's wanted peace since his day of judgement in the courtroom," says Lagos. He says Johnson wanted others who may be going down the wrong path to turn back to religion and turn their lives around. Johnson and his half-brother exchanged hand signs before the death sentence was carried out. Johnson's final statement was "game over"--words from a video game--and words that connect back to the night johnson killed his young son.
"The night he went down they was playing a game, they were drinking a lot was going on, he fell asleep when he woke up his child was dead," says Lagos. The observation room was extremely quiet during the execution, except for tom who said his relative he paid for what he did.
