A former police officer accused of driving drunk and killing a woman may have been involved in another alcohol related crash only two weeks earlier.
Nicholas Driver, 31, is charged with murder for a crash on Saturday that killed Peggy Smart, 76.
Smart, who was driving home from a yard sale at the Citronelle Senior Building, was hit head-on by Driver's truck on Highway 45.
Two weeks earlier, Driver was involved in another crash and investigators believe alcohol was also a factor, according to District Attorney Ashley Rich.
"We're looking into that right now," said Rich, who told WKRG that Driver was not charged in the single-car crash because police could not prove he was driving the car.
"We believe it's because no one saw him behind the wheel, and by the time law enforcement officers got there he was no longer behind the wheel," said Rich.
Driver worked as a police officer in Mt. Vernon until 2007. His bond is set at $50,000.
